Sven Lorenz lives and works in Karlsruhe. He is a graphic designer, photographic designer and specialist in digital communication marketing. For several decades, he has been combining corporate communication, visual design and artistic photography to forge a unique position at the intersection of strategy, aesthetics and cultural practice.
Following his training in graphic design from 1980 to 1983, he first established a photography studio and design studio. In 1987, he founded his own communications agency, artwork, which he continues to run to this day. His professional work focuses on brand development, design and digital communication.
In parallel, Sven Lorenz has developed a distinctive photographic style. Since 2002, he has been realising artistic photographic projects that explore perception, urban space, architecture and the poetic ruptures of everyday life. His photographic intention is the search for the unreal, the surreal within reality. He seeks the unexpected in the ordinary and architectural landscapes in which form, structure, light and human presence coalesce into a unique visual tension. His works revolve around delicate, often overlooked structures and the liminal spaces between reality and the real.
Since 2003, his photographs have been shown in numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad. These include presentations in Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Seoul, as well as in various galleries, institutions and temporary exhibition formats. Since 2015, representation by Saatchi Art has been an important international reference point.
In addition to his artistic work, Sven Lorenz has been active as a lecturer for many years. From 1995 to 1997 he taught at Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences, and from 2012 to 2015 at the Film and Media Academy in Karlsruhe. Since 2012, he has been a lecturer in photography at the FORUM at KIT, University of Karlsruhe. Furthermore, since 2007, he has been giving lectures and workshops on fine art photography, technique, quality and artistic aesthetics in digital photography.
By co-founding Lichtwert e.V. in 2009, Sven Lorenz also provided a significant impetus for the photographic scene in Karlsruhe. Since 2010, he has been a jury member of the international photography competition organised by the Hoepfner Foundation. Also in 2010, he co-founded the art project pART, which gained visibility through exhibitions both in Germany and abroad.
Sven Lorenz embodies a photographic and creative approach that combines precision, aesthetic sensitivity and depth of content. His works open up new perspectives on urban spaces and everyday realities – quiet, precise and yet full of visual tension.
